New recruits & promotions

25th July 2008

Colin Aylott is appointed Corporate Tax Director & Matt Watts joins as Associate Tax Director.

Smith & Williamson, a leading accountancy, tax and investment management group, has appointed Colin Aylott as a Corporate Tax Director.

Based in the firm's north London office, Colin will focus on advising owner-managed businesses and AIM-listed companies in respect of all aspects of their tax affairs, including employment incentives and overseas matters. He will have a focus on companies and limited liability partnerships in the financial sector, particularly fund managers and brokers.

"I've worked in tax for 20 years covering a range of clients and industries. For the last six years, I've increasingly worked with businesses in the financial sector, a particularly dynamic group as things are rarely quiet! During this time, I've dealt with a range of issues such as business structuring, acquisitions and disposals, and employee incentives including share options.

"Financial services and markets is a strong focus for Smith & Williamson and I'm looking forward to bringing my skills and experience to bear."

Colin is a member of Smith & Williamson's Financial Services & Markets Group, which co-ordinates the provision of services to the firm's FSA-regulated clients.

Matt Watts has been appointed Associate Tax Director at Smith & Williamson with responsibility for providing corporate tax advice on private equity and corporate transactions.

"Smith & Williamson offers a realistic alternative to the Big Four, particularly in terms of mid-market transactions. I am looking forward to growing Smith & Williamson's reputation as a key adviser on transactions in the marketplace, and to developing my own portfolio of corporate and private equity clients."

Matt joins Smith & Williamson from Ernst & Young's Transaction Tax Group, where he worked for seven years.

Separately, Angela Kellock and Angela Hughes, who work in Smith & Williamson's Private Client Tax Services department, have been promoted to Director and Associate Director, respectively, while Kirsty Smith has been promoted to Director in the National Assurance Technical Group. Her promotion builds on the established strength of the technical team within the Assurance & Business Services department.

Smith & Williamson was recently reported as having the highest percentage of female directors among the UK's top ten accountancy firms.*
